Functional medicine
A functional medicine approach with Dr Reece Yeo, Integrative Chinese Medicine Practitioner, brought together with classical Chinese medicine and explained in plain words.
Part of Reece's Resilience Medicine approach.
What is functional medicine?
Functional medicine is a clinical approach used within several health professions. It looks at what may be behind your symptoms, takes an interest in how body systems affect each other (the gut, immune system, thyroid and hormones), and uses detailed testing where it helps.
Reece's background
Reece trained in medicine before retraining in Chinese and functional medicine, a background that lets him look at your health through more than one clinical framework. He doesn't practise as a GP or medical practitioner, and works alongside yours.
How Reece uses it
It starts with detailed questionnaires before your first visit, then a Comprehensive Initial Consultation of up to 180 minutes. Reece goes through any pathology or radiology reports you send him and explains what your results mean, from both a western and a Chinese medicine point of view. So when your tests don't explain how you feel, he takes a thorough look at the whole picture.
Tests, only when they help
If more tests could help, Reece explains why and what they cost, and you decide. His services include genetic testing and a range of functional medicine pathology tests. Medicare doesn't cover these tests when Reece arranges them. Reece will go through your results with you in plain words and, with your OK, share them with your GP.
How it fits with the rest of your care
What Reece finds shapes the rest of your plan, which may include diet and lifestyle changes and acupuncture. Herbal medicine and supplements are only considered after a full consultation, and Reece discusses the options and costs with you first.
The Comprehensive Initial Consultation is a full integrative and functional medicine work-up. It's up to 180 minutes, face to face, and costs $590.
